INTRODUCING #OFFICERACE

We take you on a journey through the exciting project called “Office Race” – a collaboration between Mercedes-Benz IO, BBDO, and Jack that brought the thrill of racing to the heart of the office!

TAKING REMOTE CONTROL TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Mercedes-Benz IO had a vision to offer something extraordinary to candidates visiting their office during the Web Summit. They wanted to create an unforgettable experience, and that’s when the creative minds at BBDO and the technical expertise of Jack came into play.

The team brainstormed and devised an ingenious plan – to bring a remote-controlled Mercedes G500 car to life in real-time, located a whopping 5 kilometres away from the operator. No, it’s not a typo; you read that right! With the power of 5G connectivity and advanced technology, candidates were in for a one-of-a-kind adventure.

To get a taste of the action, we slapped a high-def camera on the car, beaming live video back to the operator. It’s like being inside the car without moving an inch.

The car’s suspension was tweaked for the bumpy office obstacle course, and handling was dialled in for the perfect adrenaline rush.

We even threw in remote diagnostics to monitor the car’s performance on the fly, making quick adjustments when needed.

Now, let’s talk about the wild transformation of an old-school arcade machine into a control center for our car.

We took a classic arcade machine and gave it a makeover. We swapped out the old controls for a steering wheel, pedals, and buttons that made you feel like a race car driver.

To ensure the smoothest control, we set up a low-latency Wi-Fi connection that let operators make those crazy moves in real-time.

The arcade machine displayed live video from the car’s camera and essential data like speed, battery life, and how far you could go. It was like you were in the cockpit.

The result? A one-of-a-kind experience that left everyone craving for more.

BUILDING THE ULTIMATE OFFICE RACETRACK

But that’s not all; we took on the monumental task of constructing a racetrack from scratch, right inside the Mercedes IO office! This indoor track would serve as the battleground for the remote-controlled races. Every twist and turn, every challenge and obstacle was meticulously designed to put the drivers’ skills to the test.

These remote-controlled cars were real, and the races were authentic. Over the course of the project, there were over 100 accidents, but that’s all part of the thrill, right? Only one rear-view mirror suffered damage, a testament to the car’s durability and the operator’s skill.

There were instances where daring operators attempted to use the remote-controlled cars for some playful exploration, attempting to sneak a peek under tables and even skirts. It just goes to show that even in the world of high-speed racing and advanced technology, there’s always room for a bit of unexpected laughter and light-hearted moments, making the Remotely #officerace an unforgettable and entertaining experience for all involved.
